The Symptoms Nobody Listened To

Why Individualised Homeopathy Matters

I started ice skating in January.

Like every beginner, I tried my utmost not to fall. But falling is part of learning, and eventually I did. One particular fall bruised my tailbone badly enough that, a few weeks later, I found myself sitting in a healthcare practitioner's clinic.

I'll write another post about what I have learnt from ice because it deserves one of its own. I never imagined that a frozen element could become such a profound teacher. Ice has moods all of its own. It demands presence, balance and respect. In many ways, it feels like practising a martial art in another form of water. It has taught me far more than how to skate.

But the injury led me to something unexpected.

The appointment itself was good. I don't want to be critical because the practitioner was professional, kind and thorough. I cannot honestly find fault with the care I received.

Yet I walked away with an empty heart.

From a Homeopathic perspective, something essential was missing.

What I love most about Homeopathy, and the reason why I am studying this majestically vast field, is the individualisation of symptoms.

Let me explain.

For as long as I can remember, I have always had some sort of illness. I drew the short straw when it came to robustness and have been this way since I was a little girl.

I had many symptoms that were strange, rare and peculiar, yet conventional doctors did not seem interested in them. I, however, thought they were superbly fascinating. I believed they were important, that they were clues, and that they were essential to solving the case.

I never gave up. I kept going from specialist to specialist, bringing them my peculiar list of symptoms. I was searching for the Dr House of the unusual.

Needless to say, I never found one.

Looking back, I only wish I had known about Homeopathy sooner.

After a very long search through many different modalities of Healing, I had my first Homeopathic interview after starting my studies. I was in heaven.

All the little details, no matter how inconsequential or peculiar a symptom seemed, were interesting to the Homeopath. They mattered.

It was a wonderful and mesmerising experience to have someone willing to spend that much time with me and listen to all the stories I had to share about my body, my mind, my emotions, even my spirituality, and all the experiences of life that had shaped me. Later, I would come to understand these as signs, symptoms and befallments.

I was hooked for life.

Individualisation was what I had been looking for.

There is no disease that manifests in exactly the same way in every person, and there is no remedy that will work for every person in exactly the same way. It is as unique as each one of us.

We each have a unique fingerprint and unique facial features. On a planet of billions of people, we can be scanned and recognised because of these individual characteristics.

So then, how is it possible that you and I would need the same remedy to heal?

When it comes to remedies, I am in awe every day at their incredible scope. The animal, mineral and plant kingdoms all come into play. Thousands upon thousands of remedies, each with their own story and their own Healing potential.

My job is first to find you, and then to find that which has disturbed your balance, that which is obscuring the true nature of your being.

Whether that disturbance is physical, mental, emotional or spiritual, it is always the whole person that is involved. All of these aspects interact together in an exquisite symphony.

I am looking for the instrument that has somehow fallen out of sync, the one that needs tuning.

So, if you feel you are ready to explore aspects of yourself in depth with a Homeopath, you have my devoted ear.

Bring all the strange, rare and peculiar parts of yourself that seem not to fit. Give me the great privilege of solving a puzzle, of searching for the remedy that may help ease some of the suffering and restore balance.
