It has been the thread that has quietly woven itself through my entire life.
Hello, I’m Elizabeth Berkhout. Let me tell you a little about myself.
There have been times when my own health asked me to slow down, to listen more carefully, and to look beyond the surface of symptoms. Rather than leading me away from life, those experiences awakened a deep curiosity about what it truly means to heal.
I never gave up.
Over the years, that curiosity became a lifelong enquiry. I explored many Healing traditions and ways of understanding the human experience, always searching for an approach that honoured both the wisdom of the body and the uniqueness of the individual. That search eventually led me to Homeopathy and Hakomi Therapy, two practices that, although different in their methods, share the same heart.
Both begin by listening. Listening without rushing to conclusions. Listening for the patterns beneath the symptoms. Listening for the quiet ways our body, mind and emotions express where balance has been disturbed.
For me, these two approaches naturally belong together.
Homeopathy listens through the language of symptoms, seeking the remedy that most closely reflects your unique experience. Hakomi listens through mindful awareness, gently exploring the habits, beliefs and embodied patterns that often live beneath our conscious awareness.
One works with the wisdom held within nature, through carefully selected remedies. The other works with the wisdom already held within you.
All my life I have been held by plants and by minerals. The substances that heal and poison. The ones that make up the ground we stand on and the bones we stand in.
Together, they create a compassionate and deeply individual way of supporting Healing. Neither asks, “What is wrong with you?” Instead, both ask, “What is your experience trying to tell us?”
I believe Healing is rarely about silencing symptoms. More often, it begins by becoming curious about them.
Our bodies are constantly communicating with us. Our emotions, thoughts, sensations and symptoms are not separate parts to be fixed in isolation. They are expressions of one interconnected whole.
This is why I dedicate time to each consultation. Not because Healing is complicated, but because every person carries a unique story, and every story deserves to be heard with care, curiosity and respect.
I love the intuitive side of this work. I also believe intuition must be backed by observation, discernment and discrimination.
That matters to me. It means I can be fully present with you in a consultation without making assumptions, and afterwards check what I noticed against what a remedy is actually known to do.
It moves Healing out of blind faith and into something that can be observed. The unprejudiced observer meets the scientist.
Today, I continue to be a devoted student of the art of Healing.
Homeopathy and Hakomi continue to humble and inspire me, not because they offer simple answers, but because they invite us to keep listening, to nature, to the body, to our inner experience and to the extraordinary intelligence that moves us towards balance.
I will also challenge you, with a great deal of compassion, because being met kindly and being left exactly as you are turn out not to be the same thing. The work is collaborative, but it is not work most of us can do alone. If it were, we would have done it long ago.
If you are looking for someone who will take the time to truly listen, and to explore your story with curiosity, gentleness and care, I would be honoured to walk that path with you.
I am a certified Hakomi Healer and a student Homeopath working under supervision, with years of prior practice in Yoga, Meditation and one to one Mentorship behind that. I work in Oxford and online.
Certified through the Hakomi Education Network, where I am listed in the practitioner directory. Search for Berkhout under Practitioners.
I am in my third year at the School of Homeopathy, and I see Homeopathy clients under supervision. An experienced Homeopath reviews the cases I take. My Homeopathy fees are lower because of it.
Student member.
Qualified teacher. I taught for years, as a philosophy and a science as much as an art.
Trained in Mantra Meditation and taught it for years, alongside one to one Mentorship. Both now set aside to concentrate on this work.
I am humbled by the Homeopaths who came before me, and by the ones I meet along the way. I expect to be a student of this for as long as I practise it.
Every photograph on this site is one of mine. Mostly small things. A drop of water held in a leaf, lichen on a rock, a fern coming up through last year’s leaves.
It is the same attention I bring to a session, and I would rather show you that than describe it.
